Arrival in Edinburgh

We finally got up to Edinburgh (pronounced Eh-din-bur-uh), Scotland on Tuesday evening.  The town is so old-looking, and the surrounding country is beautiful.  We all stumbled off the bus, dropped our stuff off at the hostel, and started wandering around for somewhere to eat.  Dr. Holland (who served his mission in Scotland) gave us a list of things we might want to do in Edinburgh.  One of these was the mouth-watering description of "Chocolate Soup".  I joined some friends in the search, and we walked for probably an hour to no avail.  All we found at the address he gave us were two cafes/pubs with names too inappropriate to name on my blog.  Tired, hungry, and grumpy, we finally stumbled around until we found a restaurant.  Luckily, eating restored our energy and the excitement of being in Scotland, so a big group of us stopped by a pub next door to our hostel for "Karaoke Night".

Two of my friends, Katie and Jacki, had been talking about Karaoke ever since I've gotten to know them, so as soon as we got there, they filled out and turned in a slip to sing "Ain't No Mountain High", and we immediately followed with "Don't Stop Believin'" and the rest with a few other songs.  Unfortunately, we were all disappointed that there were so many slips of paper waiting to be called that we would never make it before midnight, curfew time.  So we just danced for awhile and went back to the hostel for bed.

Highlight of the night: Okay, so do you know the Boot-Scootin' Boogie line dance?  It's like the electric slide, pretty nerdy and line-dancy, and I swear I've done it at every Stake and EFY dance in my life.  Well.. some of my friends started it up to one of the country-ish songs that were playing, and by the end, everyone there had picked it up and joined in.  Everyone in the Karaoke section of a pub in Edinburgh of all places was doing the Boot-Scootin' Boogie!

Definitely something to remember.
